William G. Byrnes, CFA MBA, is independent trustee at Washington Real Estate Investment Trust. He is on the Board of Directors at Washington Real Estate Investment Trust and is a former member of the Georgetown Board of Regents (2002-07).

Byrnes previously was employed as managing member at Wolverine Partners LLC; chairman at CapitalSource, Inc.; chairman at Sizeler Property Investors, Inc.; CEO at Meditrust Corp.; chairman at BuzzMetrics, Inc.; chairman and CEO at Inceiba LLC; and head-real estate and financial services at Alex. Brown & Sons, Inc. He also served on the board at LoopNet, Inc.; La Quinta Properties, Inc.; Security Capital Preferred Growth, Inc.; and La Quinta Corp. He is the author of the award winning novel The Banker Spy, a contemporary thriller about ex-lovers who become entangled in a web of international intrigue. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Georgetown University, as well as an MBA from the University of Michigan. Byrnes’ interests include European and Mesoamerican history, wine collecting, and automobiles. He and his wife, Lisa (I’80), split their time between Washington, D.C., and West Palm Beach, Florida.
