Entrepreneurship in the Jesuit Tradition: First-Year Seminar Promo, Fall 2020

In this short promotional video, Jeff Reid, a professor in the McDonough School of Business, introduces “Entrepreneurship in the Jesuit Tradition,” a first-year seminar for students entering the business school, offered in fall 2020 on Monday mornings as BADM 101-10.

Reid explains that the course dispels myths about entrepreneurs, shows how the Jesuits have been entrepreneurial since their founding, and helps students apply those values to their lives and careers. A teaching assistant and past students describe what they valued: guest speakers, including the founders of Super Coffee; an introduction to venture capital and the Venture Capital Investment Competition; a case competition; and readings such as Andrew Yang’s Smart People Should Build Things. One student said you do not need to be an entrepreneur to take the class, and that it builds a mindset that is nimble, adaptive and ready to act.
